8 Ways to PREVENT Sport Injury

Research suggests having a history of injury and incorporating a high number of training dates without recovery will increase injury rates.  Here are a few ways to combat Sports injuries.

  1. EDUCATION

Be familiar with the signs and symptoms of your injury nature.  Don’t ignore it.  An acute injury with a band-aid may likely become a chronic injury that may have the capacity to disable your dreams.

2. WARM-UP

Include dynamic exercises that rehearse your upcoming movements to be performed.Β  Increase heart rate, muscle progression, and muscle warmth gradually before full engagement in your game or practice.

3. ADAPT

Modify exercise intensity so that you stay within your personal capabilities. Avoid playing when very tired or in pain. Pain is a problem warning – pay attention.

4. CREATE BALANCE

Use complementary exercises in the gym that mimic movement on the court and apply counterbalance exercises to strengthen the entire joint for poised equilibrium stability.  Reset and rest are critical components of proper training.

5. SEEK ADVICE

Ask questions, look for professionals, learn more about total game preparation, execution, prevention, and recovery principles.

6. RESPECT

Develop a philosophy of reverence and value for the skill and knowledge of others.  Follow the rules of the sport which are designed to keep things safe.  Insist on enforcement of the rules, follow changes & study them. 

7. FOLLOW GUIDELINES

Guiding principles for cardiovascular conditioning, resistance training, flexibility training, and other types of training are available in so many formats and media configurations, gain knowledge for yourself. Wear appropriate fitting protective gear and equipment.

8. BE SMART

Weekend warriors have higher rates of injury and if you enter tournaments, train adequately for it.  Many injuries can be avoided with regular conditioning or exercises designed specifically for the sport you play.
